IPKO opens in Aruba

ARUBA--Four Members of Parliament (MPs) Perry Geerlings, Tamara Leonard, Rodolophe Samuel, and Frans Richardson are in Aruba for the Inter-Parliamentary Kingdom Consultations IPKO. The consultations started this morning and will continue until January 11.

  The MPs are together with MPs from Aruba, Curacao and the Netherlands to discuss topics that include Small Islands Developing States, consequences of Hurricane Irma on St. Maarten, the situation in Venezuela, sustainable penitentiary institutions, sustainable development goals and sustainable energy.

  Geerlings, who is Chairman of Parliament’s Committee of Kingdom Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations, delivered a presentation, titled “Aftermath and effects of Hurricane Irma on St. Maarten,” at 11:00am. The presentation focussed on the damage caused by Irma as well as the economic, medical, social, financial, political and environmental impact the storm had on St. Maarten.

  Parliament General Secretary Nancy Guishard-Joubert and Parliament Advisor attorney Ralph Richardson are also part of the delegation.
