Today, Wednesday January 31, the still highly popular former Dutch Queen Beatrix will be blowing out 80 candles on her birthday cake. To commemorate this special birthday Dutch television will be airing two documentaries tonight. NPO 1 will start at 8:35pm local time with a documentary showing her life from the time of her birth in 1938. Around 9:10pm local time one can view how Beatrix’s country the Netherlands has changed over the years, and especially during the years of her reign. Beatrix reigned as Queen of the Netherlands from 1980 until her abdication in 2013, after a reign of exactly 33 years. (RVD photo/Jeroen van der Meyde photo)
