CAY HILL--Two teams have made it to the final of the Business League which is organised by National Sports Institute (NSI) at Raoul Illidge Sports Complex every Wednesday night. NSI organised the tournament among local businesses and attracted six teams. Each team is allowed to play four males and two females.
Last night, Windward Islands Bank (WIB) defeated Teachers 2-1 in penalty shoot out to book a place in the final while Gulf Insurance claim the final spot by beating NAGICO Insurance 2-1 in regular time.
The first match between Windward Islands Bank and Teachers was a gruesome battle as both teams fought hard for a spot in the final. WIB scored the first goal off the boot of Loen Brown but Teachers hit back right away with a goal from Stephen Anderson. The intense battle went up and down the field with Teachers enjoying some clear goal opportunities which went wide or over the bar.
WIB went ahead the game off a loose ball in the penalty area but then again Teachers equalized through a powerful kick by Osean Anderson in the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
The game hustled to full time with WIB feeling aggrieved that they lost the lead twice in regular time. The coach of WIB was heard peeping up his squad by telling them that the game is not lost as yet and now is the time to do their best.
According to the rules, only three players per team are picked for the penalty shootout. Teachers tried first followed by WIB. The ball was struck over the bar for the first shoot by the Teachers. WIB responded with a goal from Loen Brown (0-1). Teachers then scored but Joost Roben took his team ahead with the score line reading 2-1.
The WIB player missed the third penalty and then the shoot from the player from Teachers was saved by the goal keeper.
WIB was very ecstatic with the outcome while the Teachers went away licking their wounds.
In the second semi-final, Gulf fought off a spirited NAGICO attack to win the match. Although, Gulf scored the first goal via Joshua Astrokarijo, Arnold King of NAGICO equalised with a very skilful goal just before half-time.
The Gulf team which looked more efficient player-for-player was threatening on most occasions in front of goal. Gulf secured the win by a goal through the feisty Becas Feroz.
Gulf will now take on WIB in the final on October 19 from 7:00pm.
