Carter Yeung and Nael Messaoudi both born in 2015 impressed scouts visiting the Carabbean. The pair have been invited to spend a week training with the scouts home club in France and then attend a second week of training in France with the PSG Antilles youth academies.
The two very young footballers from the island, have been part of FC Risc Takers youth program since they were 5 years old but training in the U7 category.
Recently they caught the eye of a scout from a French Ligue 2 professional club.
Carter and Nael, had already made a name for themselves two years ago in Curaçao by reaching the final of the U9 tournament organized in March 2024 by the Centro Juve academy.
In January 2025, PSG opened a training Academy in Concordia. This academy has been present in the French West Indies (Guadeloupe, Martinique, and French Guiana) for about eight years.
“Its goal is to allow children from Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten to receive training with the same curriculum as all PSG academies worldwide. The same exercises, games, and situations are offered with great intensity. And the results are immediate. After a few months of training at the PSG Academy under the guidance of Coach Richard Morency, the children show significant progress and a great deal of enthusiasm and determination on the field in every match they play,” explained Coach Sofiane Messaoudi,
He continued, “The academy is a kind of window to the world and a bridge to professional clubs, allowing the most talented children to be spotted by professional recruiters invited to the island by the PSG Academy.”
This is supposed to happen two to three times a year, according to the academy's coordinator, Julio Colombo, a former French professional player.
Last December, two days of scouting sessions were held at the Thelbert Carty Stadium in French Quarter, on December 8th and 9th, for the U11, U13, U15, and U17 age groups.
Following a two-day tour of St. Martin and then Guadeloupe, the FC Annecy scout decided to invite Carter and Nael for a week of training with this club in southeastern France, followed by a training camp in Brittany (northwestern France), where all the PSG Antilles academies will be represented for a week of training and selection.
Carter and Nael agree it will be hard work but they are looking forward to represent the island with pride!
