Thrilling Action on the Water for Keelboat Championship Race Day 2

SIMPSON BAY--The second race day of the Keelboat Championship took place, sponsored by Grant Thornton Sunday. Although originally planned as Day 2, it marked the first race of the Championship after the cancellation of Day 1.

A fleet of nine boats, divided across three classes: CSA 1, Diam 24,and Sunfast 20, competed in five windward/leeward races.

The Diam 24 class got off to a dramatic start when Cry Baby, skippered by Pierre Altier, suffered a dismasting just a minute into the opening race. Fortunately, the crew was safely towed back to Philipsburg by the safety boat. Despite this setback, the two remaining boats could still race the full 5 races.

Buzz race team claimed victory for the day, followed by Airnest.

In the CSA 1 class, three boats competed against each other. Island Water World dominated, taking first place in every race. Caribes Diesel provided strong competition, challenging the leader throughout the day. The eye-catching J105, More Zessin’, came in third.

The Sunfast 20 class was a late but exciting addition to the race day, featuring Green Mamba, Lagoon Marina, and Budget Marine. After a strong opening win by Lagoon Marina, Budget Marine found their stride and secured victories in the remaining races, earning first place overall.

Green Mamba consistently placed second, with Lagoon Marina finishing third.

The Keelboat Championship is off to a fantastic start.

The next event, Course de L’Alliance, is set for December 6th–8th. This exciting race will take sailors from Sint Maarten to St. Barth and Anguilla.

Spaces are still available, and registrations can be made at https://smyc.com/la-course-de-lalliance.
