Team IWW wins first yacht sailing series of the season

SIMPSON BAY --With hurricane season almost over, the St. Maarten Yacht Club organised the first keelboat series of season 2024-25.
While the dinghy series already started in September, yacht owners only start to get the yachts out of hurricane storage at the end of the season, and some where not ready as yet.

“With a nice turn out of 9 boats the sailors enjoyed a beautiful day of sailing with perfect conditions to try out the boats,” said Frits Bus skipper of IWW.
“With the usual very shifty conditions and differences in wind strenghts in Simpson Bay it was a perfect training for upcoming  major regattas.”
Under guidance of SMYC sailing instructor Elja van der Horst who was the race officer, perfect courses where set.
Team IWW won all 5 races  due to “very good starts.” Positions changed during the racing due to the major wind shifts but due to very good tactics Team IWW was able to win every race.

Second was Caribdiesel and third “More  Zessin” the former Solstice , now owned by Ryan Hope-Ross.
In Sunfast class Budget Marine beat  Green Mamba and in Diam class , Team Tortola came in first
Next race will be La Course de l’ Alliance in December 6 to 8, that will take sailors to St. Barths and Anguilla.
