    Statia youngsters to leave island to pursue  basketball career in the Netherlands

ST. EUSTATIUS -- Three young Statian athletes, Deshendree Jack (14), Xyon Rivers (18) and Lisandro Redan (24), travelled to the Netherlands on Friday  to further develop their skills in the sports of basketball and pursue eventually careers in the sport under the guidance of BV Noordkop / Den Helder Suns.

This venture is made possible through partnership between Diker Sports Training Academy Foundation (Miguel Chiverton), Noordkop BV/Den Helder SUNS (Jan Lugtenburg), the Island Government of St. Eustatius and the parents of the two youngsters.  The three youngsters were trained by Coach Chiverton for the past two years.
  This is the fourth youngster that St. Eustatius has seen off to the Netherlands to pursue opportunities in basketball in the Netherlands.  Casey Lop will play for  the basketball institute, The Hague Royals, in the Haaglanden, during the 2020-2021 season.   Lopes was also coached by Mr Chiverton.
Thanks to the tireless hours put in by Coach Miguel Chiverton.
  The youngsters extended their gratitude to Deputy Government Commissioner, Alida Francis and special thank you and always to Carol Jack-Roosberg and their coach.
