Sherwin Peters slams brilliant hundred in Motorworld T20

CUL DE SAC--Sherwin Peters of Caribbean General Contractors (CGC) Spartanz slammed the first century of the Motorworld Twenty20 tournament to secure a hard-fought win for his team over Future Champs at the Caribe Lumber Ballpark on Sunday.

Peters displayed great batting skills against the spinners; in particular, to score an even 100 off 67 balls. He stroked eight fours and seven sixes through pure class in front of a fair-sized crowd. His innings helped his team amass 149 for five in the allotted 20 overs.
The results will show that Spartanz won the match by 20 runs but it was not always comfortable for the winners who had a last minute scare from Daniel Doram and Iassie Gabriel in the 13th to the 15th overs.
Chasing 150 to win, Future Champs lost their explosive batsman and leading run scorer in Shadrack Descarte who was bounced out in the first overs. Joel Brown bowled a fast bouncer to Descarte who was late on his pull shot and was “stick up” at mid off.
Future Champs seemed to be heading for a huge defeat at 62 for two after 12 overs until the Doram and Gabriel partnership went berserk for three overs. The pair combined to 35 runs in those three overs that triggered hopes of a come-from-behind win. Doram was the aggressor and singlehanded took 15 runs off the 14th overs which was bowled by his brother Daryl Doram. Before that, they collected 14 runs from the 13th overs and six from the 15th overs to bring down the asking rate to reasonable proportion.
When Gabriel was caught behind for 45 off 40 balls (6x4) at the end of the 15th overs, Doram hit 14 off the 16th overs but that was the last eruption for the youth team as Captain of Spartanz Kenroy David took control of the damage. He collected the wickets of Mrinal Wadhwa for two and then Doram for his smashing 51 off just 29 balls (7x4, 1x6) in the 17th overs.
The bowling figures for the bowlers on the winning team were David 4-0-16-3, Arif Khan 3-0-15-2, Moreland Le Blanc 4-1-19-1 and Brown 2-0-14-1.
Along with the century from Peters, the Spartanz benefitted from 20 off 25 balls (1x4,1x6) from Damien Williams and 11 off 15 balls (2x4) from Le Blanc.
The best bowler for Future Champs was Daniel Doram with three for 38 off four overs.
In the first match on Sunday, NAGICO Cricket Club tasted its first win of the tournament with a convincing six-wicket win over KFC Twisters.
Chasing a meagre 101 runs to win, NAGICO had decent contributions from the top order in the chase. Captain Romain Doodnauth top scored with 25 off 21 balls (4x4) while the other contributors were Mrinal Wadhwa with 23 off 25 balls (2x4), Lionel Ritchie with an unbeaten 21 off 20 balls (3x4), Stephen Evans with 19 off 15 balls (3x4), Sheldon Le Blanc with 10 off 11 balls (1x4) and Anil Garib with six not out off four balls (1x4).
The best bowler for Twisters was Captain Amos Bruney with two for 17 in four overs.
The Twisters lost two wickets in the first overs in identical fashion that disrupted their innings after winning the toss and deciding to bat.
Captain Bruney was bowled by Marlon Brutus off a late dipping delivery that slipped under his bat to knock back off stump and Kern Saunders fell in similar fashion to a similar ball that seemingly awoke them out of a late morning sleep.
Kishawn Richardson of Anguiilla top scored for the Twisters with a run-a-ball 20 and exactly 20 extras was gifted too.
The Motorworld Twenty20 continues on October 22 when General Auto Repairs Kaieteur takes on Winair Conquerors and on October 23 when Spartanz do battle with Twisters from 9:30am and NAGICO match skills with Masters from 1:30pm.
