Ruby Labega Primary wins  big in netball championship

PONDFILL—Ruby Labega Primary completed a massive win in the inter-elementary school netball championship at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium.

Ruby Labega defeated Leonald Connor Primary 16-1 in a one-sided match. 

Goal Shooter, Keenoa Joseph, played outstandingly well to score 10 goals, while Inez Nova Camila Anthony scored six goals. Leonald Connor's players had no answers for the opposition attack. Goal Attack Jada Hewitt scored the lone goal for her team.

Oranje Primary outplayed Sister Marie Laurence Primary to win 12-1. For the winners, Goal Shooter, Maria Joes Quirenoes Angulo led the way with nine goals and Goal Attack, K’vincia Brooks contributed three goals. Tay’nayje Baron hit the one and only basket for her team.

Sister Magda Primary got the better of St. Dominic with a 9-4 win. Sister Magda’s Goal Shooter,Adrianna Meyers scored eight goals, and Goal Attack, Lilliana Gumbes, scored the other goal. For St. Dominic, Ziya Essed and Kayla Fontenelle scored two goals each.

In the last match of the day, Methodist Agogic Centre (MAC)-Browlia F. Maillard (BFM) Campus players held their nerve to overcome a spirited effort from the Sister Borgia Primary players.

Borgia led early in the match until a strong rally by BFM Campus took over the lead in the second quarter. In the end, the scoreline read 8-6 in favour of BFM Campus. For the winners, Goal Attack Rihanna Jones scored six goals, and Goal Shooter Jhene Spanner contributed two goals. Borgia received goals from Dulianna Brown (4) and Raschelly Salome (2).

The tournament moves into the knockout stage on March 22. Leonald Connor will play against Marie Laurence Primary from 3:00 pm, Ruby Labega will take on St. Dominic from 3:50 pm, Sister Borgia will do battle against Oranje from 4:40 pm, Hillside Christian Primary will come up against Sister Magda from 5:30 pm, and MAC-JAG Campus will take on its sister team, MAC-BFM Campus, from 6:20 pm.
