PONDFILL—The finalists for the inter-elementary school competition were decided at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium on Sunday.

The Methodist Agogic Centre-Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus (MAC-JAG) beat sister school Browlia F. Maillard Campus (BFM Campus) 7-5, and Sister Magda Primary defeated Hillside Christian Primary 7-3 to secure a spot in the final.

Both teams faced tough challenges in their victories, and only their experiences helped them get over the line.

In the first semi-final, Magda dominated the first quarter to finish ahead, 3-1.

Hillside Christian kept fighting tooth and nail, but their offence kept being intercepted by the opposition's wing defence. The second quarter ended with a scuffle with two opposing players on the floor fighting for the ball. The buzzer separated them with the score 4-2 in favour of Magda.

The support for the front-runners was loud and thunderous after each goal.

The third quarter ended 5-2, and the final score was 7-3. Magda walked away as the victorious team, evidently pleasing both themselves and the spectators.

The second semi-final started much more competitively. The ball went back and forth and was turned over due to constant interceptions. None of the teams got the ball in the basket until more than half of the seven-minute quarter had passed.

MAC-JAG, Goal Attack, Radhika Gurbaxani scored the first goal with 3:28 on the clock, but then BFM, Goal Attack, Rhianna Jones answered back with 2:25 on the clock. The first quarter ended 1-1.

At half-time, JAG Campus took the lead with the score at 3-2. The eventual winner stayed in front in the third quarter at 4-3. The score was 7-5 when Jones had a chance to make it 7-6 with just mere seconds left on the clock. However, the buzzer went off before she could shoot.

In other matches, Marie Laurence Primary beat Leonald Connor 9-1; Ruby Labega defeated St. Dominic Primary 15-9; and Sister Borgia Primary defeated Oranje Primary 10-5.

The tournament continues on March 29 when Leonald Connor Primary will play St. Dominic from 3:30 pm for seventh position, Marie Laurence Primary will take on Sister Borgia Primary from 4:20 pm for fifth position, BFM Campus will do battle against Hillside Christian from 5:10 pm for third position, and the final will start from 6:00 pm between Magda and JAG-Campus.
