Parris places fourth in international pool

PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten pool player Michael Parris placed fourth at the St. Kitts and Nevis Caribbean Blackball Enterprises Pool Tournament last weekend.
Parris competed against nearly 40 shooters representing a dozen different countries.

The game was 8-ball with ball-in-hand rules.
“I have played a lot of pool on St. Maarten,” said Parris.  “I was always in the top group and once or twice a year I would win a tournament.”
Parris wanted to test himself off island.  So, he bought a table and began serious training at home.
St. Kitts was Parris’ first international competition as a single shooter. In 2015 he competed on Team St. Maarten.
“I just want to see how far I can go,” admitted Parris.
His next test will be in August at the fifth annual Warriors Challenge A&L Pool Competition in St. Croix.
“There are a bunch of pool tournaments popping up in the Caribbean,” said Parris.  There is a lot of talent in the region.”
Parris is aiming for a shot at the U.S. Open next year.
