CUL DE SAC--The Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus (JAG) defeated Hillside Christian Primary School by nine wicketsw to top the table in the annual Inter-elementary Schools Kiddy Cricket tournament.
Hillside Christian Primary won the toss and decided to bat first. They were without two of their outstanding players in Leandro Barry and Triston Arthur. After the allotted 11 overs, they posted 76 for one. Captain Zack top scored with 38 not out which included three fours and one six, Regan Benjamin with 29 not out (2x4, 1x6) and Edmond Pieters with 10 (1x4, 1x6).
The best bowler for the winners was Nikhilesh Raghubir with one for five in one over.
In reply, Captain of Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus hit a blazing 38 (6x6) to help complete the win in just 5.4 overs. There were other solid contributions from Raghubir with 25 (1x4, 3x6) and Isra-el Morton with 16 (2x4, 1x6).
The two teams are considered the best in the tournament. This win for defending champions; Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus will surely lift their confidence ahead of the final on Friday.
In the first match on Wednesday, Seventh-day Adventist Primary beat Leonald Connor Primary by 10 wickets. The latter school posted 58 for five in 11 overs. The leading scorer was Keniyon James with 19 not out (2x4). Bernardo Nisbett hit 12 (1x4).
The best bowler for the Seventh-day Adventist Primary was Evante Johnson with one for two in one over.
For the winners, Captain Donnelle Ottley slammed 42 not out (4x4, 4x6) and Rudemer Mc Rae contributed 13 (1x4, 1x6).
After all the preliminary matches were completed, JAG won all three matches to occupy first place, Hillside Christian Primary secured second place, Seventh-day Adventist Primary placed third and the Leonald Connor Primary is in fourth place.
For the semi-final matchup today, JAG will play Leonald Connor Primary from 2:00pm and Hillside Christian Primary will match skills with Seventh-day Adventist from 3:30pm.
