PHILIPSBURG--Chairman of Cricket St. Maarten, Imran Mc Sood Amjad has been appointed an independent director of Cricket West Indies (CWI) under the new Ricky Skerritt administration. The appointment was made at CWI board meeting last week just a few weeks after Skerritt became the new President of CWI along with his Vice President Dr. Kishore Shallow.

Mc Sood goes to CWI with a wealth of cricket knowledge having played the game for more than 35 years and being in local cricket administration for over 25 years. As an independent director, Mc Sood is expected to have a front seat as to the happenings in West Indies cricket and has the opportunity to help shape the vision and course of action for cricket in the region with the voting rights that comes with the appointment.
On St. Maarten, Mc Sood is known as a visionary  whose efforts have kept cricket alive amongst the many challenges it faces. As Chairman of NAGICO, he has also given strong leadership and financial support towards the wider Caribbean and local fraternity.
President Skerritt was reported as saying, "We are delighted to welcome Mr. Mc Sood Amjad's deep region-wide business experience and his undoubted passion for cricket to the CWI Board, where we know he will make valuable contributions to the growth and success of the West Indies to make cricket the heartbeat of the Caribbean."
On CWI, there are 12 directors and four independent directors which make up the board.
The present directors are President Ricky Skerritt, Vice President Dr. Kishore Shallow, Calvin Hope Vice President of Barbados, Conde Riley Chairman Cricket Franchise of Barbados Institute, Anil Anansi Secretary Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Anand Kalladeen Treasurer of GCB, Wilford Heaven President Jamaica Cricket Association, Dr. Donovan Bennett from Jamaica, Enoch Lewis President Leeward Island Cricket Board (LICB), Denrick Liburd from LICB, Azim Bassarath President T&T Cricket Board, Arjoon Ramlal, Vice President of T&T Cricket Board and Julian Charles of Windward Islands Cricket Board. Some of the names who made up the four independent directors will change because Skerritt and Shallow were independent directors before ascending to the two top posts.
In a congratulatory note, President of Cricket St. Maarten Dwayne Elgin stated, "Cricket St. Maarten is extremely proud on the appointment of our Chairman Imran Mc Sood Amjad to the Independent Directorship of Cricket West Indies. We are delighted to know that Mr. Amjad who has dedicated countless time and significant personal and business financial resources to keep cricket alive on St. Maarten and the Caribbean, will surely benefit cricket leadership in the region. As a true visionary and pioneer, we are sure he will add tremendous value to Cricket West Indies. We wish him well."
