THE HAGUE—St. Maarten Muay Thai kick box Omar Marsham defeated Laith Lowen by Technical Knock Out in the first round of their 77kg fight Sunday. Lowen  a seasoned semi pro fighter from Hamburg, Germany who is busy qualifying for the professional level went into the match  at 22 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw.

In the first round Marsham started to pressure the German with fierce kicks. The German tried to punch his way through Marsham.
After about 30 second Marsham managed to floor the German with a heavy low-kick to the thigh. The German got up and attacked fiercely. Marsham counter and managed to control Lowen in a clinch.
During this clinch he managed to land a solid knee to the body and to the head. The German was stunned
and backed up.
Marsham smelled victory and attacked with a high round house kick to the head which landed flush. The German was dazed, and the referee stepped in to save him with an eight count. The German did not recover during this count and the referee stopped the fight,
Marsham was the winner.
The trip to the Netherlands was the second for Marsham.
The St. Maarten Muay Thai kick boxing club Sityodtong,  sent their semi pro student  Marsham for his second training camp in Amsterdam. Marsham who has a record of 11 wins and 3 losses with a Caribbean championships title is a very promising fighter.
The kick boxing club in St. Maarten is affiliated with Sityodtong Amsterdam where several high ranking champions train. Most of these fighters are title holders in large organizations such as Wu Lin Fen in China, Mixfight in Germany and Turkey, Glory, W5 in Russia, Lion Fight in the US and One championship in Asia.
When Marco London who is Marsham’s trainer , told  the coaches Paul Pengel and Vincent Pengel from Sityodtong Amsterdam, about a Sint Maarten  fighter with great potential , they gladly offered him a training spot on their teams of champions.
During his visit he would also be able to train at ARJ training in the Hague, which is owned by Mikael Polanen who is one of Netherland’s international fight promoter and arranges fights for promising Dutch fighters worldwide.
Marsham would have to train under their strict training regime during a period of 2 weeks and if successful he would get a chance for a qualifying match.
In November 2018 Marsham went to the Netherlands for his first training camp. During this period, he got an opportunity to spar with some of the world’s leading champions and he performed quite well between them. Unfortunately, he did not get a match due to a last minute cancellation of his scheduled opponent. The training camp however was not without fruit and Marsham came back as a changed fighter. Much of the things he learned in Netherlands he shared with the students in the gym in St Maarten which elevated the level of training here in St Maarten.
Marsham will return to St. Maarten by the end of this week.
People that are interested in seeing Marsham or some of the other Sint Maarten kickboxing team members train or wish to join can come to the Gym at Milton Peters College on /Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30 to 7:30pm for children and 7:30 to 8:30pm for adults
