SIMPSON BAY--The St. Maarten Sailing Federation (SIMSAF) will be host the second annual Lagoon National Championships on Saturday, October 15.
This event is designed to promote the highest possible level of fleet racing in St. Maarten and will be the kick off of the 2016/2017 sailing season. This year the event is open to the Jeanneau 20’s (supplied equipment with rotation), RS Vision (SMYC equipment only) and the Laser class.
The final registration, skippers briefing and introduction will be at Lagoonies Bar and Bistro on Friday October 14 starting at 5:00pm. Racing will take place Saturday with a lunch break.
The Jeanneau 20 class already has a strong entry that includes Frits Bus, Simon Manley, Ernst Looser, Robbie Ferron, Garth Steyn, Rien Korteknie, Iain Mobbs and Jean Michel Riccour . There is a maximum of 13 teams. There are reports of a strong RS Vision entry with the support of the St. Maarten Yacht Club.
Prize giving will take place at Lagoonies Bar and Bistro during which a special award will be given out for the Sailor of the Year in adult and junior division. This award is a special recognition for a sailor that is actively involved in the sailing community and chosen at the discretion of the SIMSAF board.
