PHILIPSBURG – Team Philipsburg, the island’s premier 3x3 basketball team secured a monumental victory at the Alliance Quest held in St. Eustatius, earning them qualification for the prestigious FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters in Edmonton, Canada.
The win not only crowns Team Philipsburg as champions of the regional qualifier, but also cements their position among the elite in the international 3x3 basketball scene. They become only the second Caribbean team ever to qualify for a FIBA3x3 World Tour Masters event – a moment that echoes far beyond the final buzzer.
“This is a turning point for basketball in St. Maarten,” said Paul Bell, President of 3x3 St. Maarten. “Qualifying for the World Tour means that our local athletes can now measure themselves against the very best in the world. The FIBA 3x3 World Tour is the pinnacle of the sport. Attracting elite teams from every continent. The Edmonton stop is one of the tour’s marquee events, and Team Philipsburg’s places St. Maarten on the global basketball map.
With the World Tour stop in Canada just weeks away, Team Philipsburg will shift their focus to preparation. The team is expected to hold an intensive training camp and will be seeking community and corporate support to ensure a strong showing in Edmonton.
