SIMPSON BAY--Team Island Water World repeated as overall winner of the St. Marten Yacth Club’s Keelboat Racing Season CSA 1 Class champion. Team Island Water World raced in their Melgas 24.
The competition was sponsored by Grant Thornton.
Three teams contested the final race under nice conditions with winds around 15 knots. Setting sail were Team Solstice, Team Island Water World, and Team Budget Marine.
The teams sailed three races. Unfortunately, Team Island Water World was unable to finish the second race due to technical issues. Team Budget Marine claimed the first place
after all three races, with Team Solstice in second place and Team IWW in third.
Despite the third place finish Team Island Water World had earned enough points to be crowned the overall season winner.
Race leader Elja van der Horst, with volunteer race committee Sam Peeks, looks back on a nice last race day, "The last keelboat race was a success. Despite only two teams finishing all races, the enthusiasm was great.
The keelboat series is spread out through the year starting in October and ending in June.
Team Budget Marine , FKG , Carib Diesel and Zessin were in close pursuit but they unfortunately are not able to make all the races.
“Due to our solid sponser Island Water World and a regular well motivated crew, Team IWW is always there,” explained skipper Frits Bus.
“We make it a point when the Yacth Club organizes an event. we try our utmost to be there.”
In the Diam 24 fleet, Buzz Race Team took first place, followed by Marlin and Cry Babyin third.
