DIVI LITTLE BAY--Gautier Mathieu de Fossey won the fourth ENNIA Marathon organised by SXM Roadrunners on Sunday in a time of 3:01:37, significantly faster than last year’s winning time of 3:23: 45 set by St. Barths runner Simon Chuinard.
SXM Tri Academy’s Gregory Pigeon who won the full marathon in 2023 but opted to run the Tortuga Half Marathon instead in 2024 due to a knee injury, returned on top form to finish second in Sunday’s marathon in a time of 3:14:24. Fabien Husson from St. Barths finished third in 3:19: 50.
“I was leading all the way but I got muscle pain in the final kilometres, but I was able to run through the pain and reduce my speed,” said De Fossey from SXM Runners and CrossFit Team at the finish. “I have been feeling very good lately. Unfortunately I couldn’t get under the three hour mark, because I took a wrong turn twice and that added six or 700 metres more. But that’s okay, it was a great race. I’m very happy because it was my first marathon".
The Tortuga Half Marathon (21K) was won by Olivier Basset in 1:33:16, followed by Jeanot Gouin in 1:35:51, and third Raydon Mozard, 1:36:00
The Country Club Port de Plaisance 10K was won by Stephen Seymour in 43: 16 , second to Daniel Kalakech 43:57, and third Frederick Bleuze 44:43.
Winner of the HBN Tax Law 5K run and Walk was Nahjah Wyatte in 20:34, second went to Renaud Vitre in 21:01, and third Risto Chalkov in 22:12.
Some of the notable results included Mary Wrigley completing the marathon in the 60 plus category in 4:54:06 (36th overall). Age and experience upstaged up and coming youth runner Meks Teunissen running in the 13-18 age category and finishing in 5:15:51 (42nd overall), in his first marathon.
Also seen on the course Member of Parliament (MP) Ardwell Irion finishing the 10K in 59:46 (32nd overall), and Dr. Felix Holiday from St. Maarten Medical Centre (SMMC) completing the Half Marathon in 2:54:25 (90th overall).
The fully subscribed event saw 53 runners take on and finish the full marathon, 92 runners completed the Half Marathon, 91 runners finished the 10K (24 did not start DNS) and 141 finished the 5K Run and Walk (28 DNS).
Another great success for SXM Roadrunners, thanks to loyal support from sponsors and volunteers. Complete results are on the MyLaps Sporthive Event website.
