Free Boxing Referee and Judge’s clinic starts tonight

Three-star Olympic ranked boxing referee-judge James Beckles meets with local boxing association president Shawn Blair to discuss plans for Battle of the Islands  Creole Boxing Tournament this weekend.

 

PHILIPSBURG--The Caribbean’s highest ranked referee-judge, International Boxing Association (AIBA) three-star Olympic ranked James Beckles of Trinidad and Tobago will host a free Boxing Referee and Judge’s clinic on St. Maarten.

  Beckles has 21 years experience in the ring and is already tapped to officiate the up coming Pan American Games.

  Beckles  is on the Friendly island to help the St. Maarten Boxing Association with their Battle of the Islands  Creole Boxing Tournament that will take place at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium this weekend.

  General admission to the boxing is US $10 per night with eight bouts expected each night starting at 7:00pm.

 “The final cards will be announced after the Thursday weight in,” said Shawn Blair president of the local boxing association. Blair continued, “There is still time for sponsors to come forward to help out and support our local boxers.

  Four athletes  are scheduled to represent St. Maarten. Stephane Duzant, Malcolm Philips,  Shamar Bertram and Kesney Joseph are all expected to have bouts.

  The boxing referee and judge’s clinic is scheduled to begin this evening at 5:00pm. Space is still available.
