CUL DE SAC--St. Maarten youth cricket programme continues to flourish after five players were selected to participate in the Leeward Islands youth camp in Antigua. The local cricketers leave on March 16, for the 10-day training camp. The players were selected after outstanding performances in three trial matches against their Anguilla counterparts.
The players are St. Maarten U15 Captain Randel Longville, Amarius Harris, Davanand Singh, Nathan Edwards and Chamiqueko Landefort.
The young cricketers are all excited to travel overseas and have high hopes of making the Leeward Islands U15 team to participate in the regional youth tournament.
Longville attends the Orange Primary School, Harris goes to school on the French side, Singh attends the Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus, Edward goes to the Sundial Secondary School and Landefort goes to the St. Maarten Academy.
All the young players possess a diversity of skills which have helped them to be proficient cricketers. Longville is a wicketkeeper/ batsmen, Harris is a left-arm spinner, Singh is an opening batsman and a leg spinner, Edwards is also a batsman but he is a left arm medium pacer, and Landefort is a fast bowler.
The five cricketers from St. Maarten, along with other youth cricketers from Antigua, Anguilla, Nevis, Montserrat and St. Kitts, will be seeking to impress the selectors in order to be selected as a member of the 14-man squad.
The regional U15 tournament begins on March 26 to April 5 in Jamaica.
