MARIGOT--The sixth edition of La Saint Martinoise Run and Walk organised by the Avenir Sportif Club was another big success on Saturday, with 255 runners and walkers taking part.
The slogan of this year’s event, some seven months after Hurricane Irma, was “Still Running” a defiant gesture and with 255 “100 per cent feminine” participants it was clear proof that difficulties can be overcome.
Godmother of the event this year was First Vice-President of the Collectivité Valerie Damaseau who also participated. As usual a wave of runners and walkers in pink T-shirts contested the 5K distance around Marigot.
Singer Tamillia Chance, 2017 Voice Kids finalist, gave a brilliant interpretation of the St. Martin Song before the start, impressing participants and spectators. In the Under 40 individual category it was Cecilia Mobuchon who was fastest over the distance in 20:01, Felicia Paines was second in 21:25, and Karen Lerest third in 24:11.
In Ladies over 40, Sarah Celestine was first (22:33), Valerie Erceau second (22:43) and Catherine Guerrard third (24:11). In the mother and daughter category, Team Alpha Trail (Doranges Anne and Annae) were first in 23:01, Dream Traileuse (Magali Merle and Tamara) second in 27:41, and Sxtrem Mini Girl (Fiardalize Berroa and Dias Berroa) third in 31:59.
In the Walker’s category Under 40, Ingrid Linguet was first in 40:09, Myrtille Alfred second in 40:49 and third to Melissa Juventon (41:15).
In the over 40’s category: Svetlana Barthelemy was first (35:36), Cecile Loussert second (37:37) and third Chantal Thibaut third (38:46).
The youngest runner of the event was Doranges Annae who finished seventh overall, a champion in the making.
Medals and diplomas were presented to all participants and many won gifts in the raffle courtesy of the sponsors. The grand prize was a return ticket St. Martin to Paris on Air Carïibes. The high energy Zumba work out was led by Hilianthe.
