St. Maarten was represented at the first Pan-American Surf Ski Championships held in Brazil. Lidwien Weitenberg and Juan Pablo Piscione competed in the 23 kilometre downwind paddle.
Weitenberg placed first in her age group with a time of 2:12:23. Piscione was second in his group with a time of 1:56:51.
