Dutch military plays baseball

POND ISLAND--Members of the Dutch military took a short break from relief work to play baseball. The group of engineers and marines visited the Little League’s Player Development program at the Ballpark on Pond Island and spent time with the children age five to 12.

The group played a short four inning game, military against the Little League. When it was all over, the children won by one run, the two teams lined up at home plate shook hands and then the military gave the children some sweeties.
Both groups had so much fun the military team said they would try to come back for another game before they had to return to the Netherlands.
Player Development is an after-school program that stressed the importance of education as well as sport. The children have to do reading and math before they get to playball. Player development is open Monday to Friday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to noon.
