Cross country mountain bike race in Bellevue on Sunday

MARIGOT—The 2016 mountain bike championship will be contested over a cross country course in Bellevue this Sunday.

The event is presented by Tri Sport and Association Sportif de Marigot (ASM) and will have adult, youth and children categories.
The course for the adults consists of a 5K loop with over 150 metres of climbing but also has fast downhills and winding single track through the woods. The race has emphasis on endurance and stamina and is less technical than the previous race.
A new feature in the race is the downhill trail designed by Mike Kopec named the “Bullet” which starts half way up the Princess climb.
All the usual mountain bike aficionados will be on the start line. The big question is will anyone be able to beat Dean Hodge Jr in the Elites category? Hodge equally comfortable on road bike or mountain bike will be full of confidence after winning the ASM Grand Prix last week.
Elites (20-39) will do five laps of the course, Masters 1 (40-49) four laps, Masters 2 (50 plus) four laps, Women and Juniors three laps, and Cadets and Beginners two laps.
The adult race starts at 7:30am with the youth and children categories at 9:30am.
There is still time to register at Tri Sport Simpson Bay or in Marigot. Entry fee is $15 or $10 for kids under 18 and includes breakfast after the race.
Prizes and trophies sponsored by Tri Sport and Atlantic Signs will be presented to the winners in each category.
