Brown wins first run of the season

CUL DE SAC--Leshawn Brown won the three kilometer Cross Country Run at Emilo Wilson Park. Brown, racing in the Under 17 group, covered the distance in 11-minutes 58- seconds, Sunday. Adrian Arrindell was second in the group with a time of 12 -minutes 22- seconds and Vitasha Carty was third at 13:10.


  The run was hosted by the St. Maarten Amateur Athletic Association. The first running event for the year featured Track & Field Team from the French side Avenir Sportif and from the Dutch side Lab Sports Academy.
  The competition was divided into three distances. Youth age 10 and under ran one kilometer. Age 13 and under ran 2k while 14 and up raced 3k.
  Zario Melfor won the age 14 division with a time of 11:59. Second was Nathan Casimir at 12:40.
  Marta Marden won the Open 3k distance at 13:00. Akeem Gumbs    was second with a time of 19:39Sec.
  Desiree Gamiette took top honours on the 1k age 10 group with a time of 4:15. Second was Michele Gamiette at 4:25.
  Chanel Richardson won the 2k race with a time of 7:25. Second was Ejannee Shillingford at 8:24.
  Top male runners in the 2k distance were Ejomar Shillingford and Verlangen Gamiette both with a time of 7:29. Renato Daniel finished at 8:24.
