MARIGOT--Top bikini athlete from Bodybuilding and Fitness Association of St. Martin (BFASM) Josephine Elvina Matthew is enjoying a well-earned celebration after winning a silver medal at the 2018 International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) Diamond Cup Caribe in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, over the weekend.
Her latest success came on the heels of placing third at the Miss and Mister IFBB America in Bogota, Colombia, and a week earlier with only four days to re-adjust focus for the competition in Santo Domingo.
The highly-competitive Diamond Caribe Cup attracted more than 99 athletes from 15 countries such as Bahamas, Mexico, Venezuela, Jamaica, Haiti, Poland, Slovakia, Curaçao, Guatemala, Honduras, Aruba, Portugal, Colombia, and host country Dominican Republic.
Matthew not only placed second for the silver medal, but made it into the six overall finalists, coming close to obtaining her Pro Card.
“What a proud moment it was for us,” said BFASM President Francois Carty. “Elvina made St. Martin smile again. She dug her heels in, paid the price in the gym to stand tall and deliver once again. Hard work and dedication have paid off.
“A big thank you to Vice President of the Collectivité Valerie Damaseau for having the insight and vision for sports and tourism for our country, and to our local sponsors for making this journey possible. Once again, it was an honour and great opportunity to promote our country through sports. At BFASM we don’t stop moving.”
