Road situation at Cupper Drive

Dear Editor,

Please allow me some space to air my frustration over the road situation at Cupper Drive, St. Peters (location of Sister Magda Primary School and St. Maarten Academy, together about 700-800 students).

When the new school year started, it was with great pleasure to return to a shiny new asphalted street leading up to the schools, including a paved turning area at the dead-end road, after 7 years of passing over cracked concreate and potholes to bring my kids to school. The drop-off and pick-up traffic situation finally seemed to have been somewhat solved.

Therefore, I and many other parents and teachers, were appalled to return after the October break to find the whole street cut open with a 1-meter-wide centre ditch, creating a horrible traffic situation during mornings and afternoons. To this day, 2 months later, no work has been done to finish the road.

My question to the responsible parties are: What was the urgency to destroy a brand-new road in front of two schools in the middle of the school year, 3 months after the road had been completely resurfaced??? There is obviously no urgency to complete the project!

Who ordered this project? How can the contractor be allowed to leave the project unfinished in busy school street where so many students are affected?

Who is responsible for resurfacing the road? And when can we expect to have a properly- surfaced road back again?

One of many frustrated parents
