Dear Editor,
I read the editorial of Tuesday, September 29th, and smiled, because it brought back thoughts of my father. And then I read a commentary the next day and again the same thought came to me so I decided to write something about it. As I have always commented, I was one of fourteen of two parents who did not spare the rod. Every time I think back of those days I am thankful, for I know I am not spoiled.
My parents did what was expected of them and God did His thing. My father did not use curse words, he had his own method. And one of them was, "I will bring you to Christian feelings".
Over the years, I have noticed that newspapers always try to avoid getting into disputes about religion, the Bible, etc. I do not see why, because it is my opinion that news is news, whether it is about Christianity, atheism, homophobia, politics or whatever. The fact that there is an editorial, which is usually the responsibility of the Editor in Chief, confirms that there is an opinion and one can be judged by that. That is why I smiled when I read those commentaries, because there is a plight for 'education for all' and the other one was a 'supplication for rain' and my reaction was, "They are coming to Christian feelings" which brought back those pleasant reflections of my father. Just think of it: He is smiling years after while thinking of the cut-tail he got.
