Youth urged to participate in UNESCO online survey

PHILIPSBURG--Education Minister Silveria Jacobs urges St. Maarten youth between the ages of 15 to 25 years to participate in a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) online public consultation survey currently running.

The public consultation themed “Tell them what you want to learn,” for the region’s young people, is open for responses until October 30. The UNESCO Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean is working with other organisations in the region to implement the second phase of the online consultation “Tell them what you want to learn.” The consultation allows young people to express their thoughts on what types of learning they consider to be relevant. Their ideas will help the rethinking and redesigning of education in the future.

The only requirement to participate is to be between 15 and 25 years old and to vote on the website. The first phase of the consultation –implemented from June 14 to July 14, of this year – showed that young people want to learn about a wide range of topics, and to open themselves up for learning about pending issues for today’s world. The preliminary results illustrate young people’s desire to learn in settings beyond schools and traditional forms of teaching.

The consultation benefits from the collaboration and advisory services of a number of organizations. Persons can also participate by logging on to: or www.dilesquequieresaprender.org.
