‘Yoda Guy’ Nick Maley guest of honour of Puerto Rico orchestra

PHILIPSBURG--May is a busy month for Philipsburg’s “Yoda Guy” Nick Maley, starting with a guest of honour appearance at the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra’s “Star Wars 40+” concert, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of the first Star Wars movie.

The Orchestra will feature the music of John Williams from Star Wars Episode I through Episode VII on Friday, May 19 at the Centro de Bellas Artes in San Juan.

Maley earned the “Yoda Guy” nickname as a creature builder on the classic Star Wars Trilogy and his museum on Front Street is a popular stop for visitors to St. Maarten.

This will be the third time he has appeared as the featured speaker with the Orchestra, but the first to feature him operating his animatronic Yoda.

Built last year in St. Maarten, the puppet is the only one in the world built the same way as the 1978 original.

During the concert Maley will be talking about the early days of filming Star Wars, and about the intricacies of creating the world’s first animatronic superstar. “I love this venue,” Maley says. “The Puerto Rican fans are so warm-hearted and the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra’s musicians are a joy to work with.”
