Xmas lunch treat

Senior citizens donned fancy dress for a Christmas lunch held in the Senior Citizens Recreational Centre on Tuesday. The festive lunch was sponsored by St. Maarten Development Fund (SMDF). Caterer Jewel Daal and her family donated their culinary skills for the feast. Adding to the festivities was a donation to the centre of a double fryer and a rice cooker by Lions Club Mid-Isle. The centre sustained some damage in Hurricane Irma, but is able to continue operations thanks to repairs by the Royal Dutch Engineers. Funds are needed for extensive repairs of the place where seniors meet every Tuesday and Thursday. Centre Director Marva Hanson hopes to add a third meeting day in 2018; additional funds are needed for such. Breakfast and lunch are provided on both days for the some 45 seniors who attend for games, computer classes, socialising and other activities.
