SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN #16

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Dorian was located near latitude 17.5 North, longitude 64.5 West, or about 105 miles south southwest of St. Maarten.

Dorian is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue for the next day or two. On the forecast track, the center of Dorian should move near the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and continue over the open Atlantic.

Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Dorian is forecast to become a hurricane later today and continue strengthening during the next few days.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (135km) from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches).

The center of Tropical Storm Dorian is expected to be moving away from St. Maarten. However, showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected from the outer bands of the system.

Meteorological Department St. Maarten will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Dorian and issue special weather bulletins.
