World Bank team is in St. Maarten

PHILIPSBURG--A delegation from the World Bank is in St. Maarten and a World Bank team of experts will be starting their preparatory activities in the country today, Monday.

Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin welcomed the team during a meeting on Friday. During that meeting Romeo-Marlin and the head of the World Bank team, Doekle Wielinga, discussed how the World Bank can support St. Maarten’s recovery and reconstruction efforts. It was agreed that urgent action is needed, it was stated in a press release issued on Sunday.
“I am elated to welcome the World Bank to Sint Maarten, as this symbolises the continuation of the process of accessing the much-needed reconstruction fund that has been available to Sint Maarten. This Council of Ministers is eager to bring relief to the people of Sint Maarten and return Sint Maarten to its position as a beacon of prosperity,” Romeo-Marlin said.
