PHILIPSBURG--Head of the Department of Culture Clara Reyes and the organising committee responsible for hosting the events in celebration of Emancipation Day have adapted the start time of events considering the forecasted inclement weather that will affect St. Maarten between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
The ecumenical church service at the St. Martin of Tours church in Front Street will now begin at 10:00am, and not at the original start time of 8:30am.
At 11:00am, the service will be followed by a cultural manifestation at the Watkins House on the Boardwalk Boulevard.
The film “Atlantis Rebirth” by Jonathan van Arneman and National Institute of Arts (NIA) will be screened at Caribbean Cinemas in Cole Bay at the scheduled time of 4:00pm.
Face mask and social distancing are mandatory during all Emancipation Day events, marking the 158th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Abolishment of Slavery on July 1, 1863.
The motto of this year’s celebration hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport is “No More Auction Block.”
