Schotte shows law proposal.
WILLEMSTAD--Curaçao opposition party MFK, of former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte, wants certain non-Dutch citizens eighteen years or older to also vote during parliamentary elections.
An initiative draft bill was submitted for this purpose. The foreign national must either be born in Curaçao or have legally resided on the island at least 10 years and thus acquired permanent residency.
To make this change, not only the electoral regulations but also the Constitution of Curaçao must be adjusted, which will require the backing of two-thirds of the 21 seats in Parliament.
