 PHILIPSBURG--Vinod Kotai, Mirurgia Brown and Charlise Philips won a chance to sit on the board of the St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry (COCI) when they amassed the most votes in the Chamber election on Friday.

  Kotai amassed the most votes in the election, capturing 67 votes for the one available seat as a representative of small businesses on the board.

  Brown secured 42 votes for one of the two seats as a representative of large businesses and Philips won 24 votes to obtain the second available seat in this category.

  Election committee chairperson Franklin Brison said the election was well attended.  

  Two polling stations were opened for the election – one at the COCI office in Philipsburg and the second at the Simpson Bay Public Service Centre. The election ran from 8:30am to 12:00pm.

  Seven persons contested the election. Six persons were nominated for the one seat to represent the small business sector and four persons (three of whom were also nominated for the small business sector) were nominated for the two seats for the large business sector. The other candidates were Jaques Annicette, Aurillio Baly, Edsel Gumbs, and Claudia Lista.
