ST. EUSTATIUS--Foundation Uniek Curaçao has sent three volunteers to assist St. Eustatius National Parks Stenapa Foundation with clearing the trails on Statia after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Clearing the 29-kilometre trail network from trees, branches and debris is so much work that Stenapa gladly accepted the offer from Uniek Curaçao to help them out.
The team will focus on the island’s northern hills, where they will do trails such as Bergje, Gilboa 2 and 3 and improve signage, says Stenapa Director Clarisse Buma. The volunteers will also help out in Miriam C. Schmidt Botanical Garden.
“It is an honour to visit a colleague nature organisation in the Dutch Caribbean. We enjoy the beauty of the National Parks. Statia is so green, a real treasure for hikers. We also exchange views and experiences about maintaining trails. Very productive,” says Mundo Martina from Uniek Curaçao.
Foundation Uniek Curaçao was created in 1991 as a non-profit organisation. The visit was made financially possible thanks to a donation from the Prince Bernhard Fund Caribbean Territory.
