Tzu Chi donates 200 bags of rice

Love Rice being donated to residents.

POND ISLAND--St. Maarten Tzu Chi Foundation donated 200 22-pound bags of Love Rice to residents of Pond Island during a distribution relief drive late last month.

The drive was possible thanks to the assistance of 17 volunteers, five of whom are Tzu Chi commissioners.

Persons returned their bamboo banks (Tzu Chi collection bottles) during the drive and many requested more. Persons in the community can deposit love offerings into the bamboo banks, which the foundation uses to help others in the community.

One of the recipients was grateful for the donation, as she has been facing many difficulties since Hurricane Irma. She liked the idea of the bamboo bank and she promised to get involved and do her part to help others.

One of the recipients said the donation of Love Rice was very much appreciated. “It is a beautiful thing they are doing for the community and it is appreciated,” the recipient said.

Tzu Chi Commissioner Sandra Cheung is grateful for everyone who was involved in the drive.
