Trailer truck capsizes at Kruythoff roundabout

PHILIPSBURG—Traffic slowed to a snail’s pace on the AJC Brouwer Road and in Cole Bay mid-morning Friday, when a trailer truck loaded with metal pipes capsizes at the Kruythoff roundabout.

At around 9:30am the trainer truck carrying heavy duty metal pipes lost control trying to go maneuver the roundabout at the bottom of the AJC Brouwer Road in Cole Bay. The truck was heading around the roundabout in the direction of Marigot when for unknown reasons, it toppled causing the driver to be trapped inside. Public spirited citizens rescued the driver from the trailer truck. He escaped with minor injuries.

Soon after the accident, efforts were being made to clear the road of the heavy duty metal as well as move the trailer truck. Motorists are urged to proceed with caution and follow the commands of officers in the area. If possible all motorists are asked to divert all travels heading into Cole Bay, Simpson Bay or French St. Martin to the Old Cake House Road until the roads are cleared and safe.
