PHILIPSBURG--The traffic lights at the junction of Bush Road, Walter Nisbeth Road (Pondfill), A.Th. Illidge Road and Longwall Road are likely to be operational soon, as crews were seen installing the lights over the weekend.

The traffic lights have been absent for more than two years, having been damaged during Hurricane Irma in September 2017. It has been widely regarded as a significant issue for motorists, especially those unfamiliar with the area.

Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI Chris Wever said his aim “is to improve our national road safety,” especially considering that the tourist season is underway. To ensure that motorists and pedestrians are safe when accessing public roads, Wever said he will ensure that “missing signs are replaced, road markings are repainted, and general road repairs are done.”

In a press release on Monday, he said his approach “reflects a policy of renewal and improvement.”

The Daily Herald understands that the traffic lights are set to be fully operational within two weeks.
