The Council of Ministers met with the Executive Board and Management of St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) on Thursday, March 1. SHTA requested the meeting, according to a government press statement, to express the association’s interest and support in achieving the goals set by government post-Hurricane Irma to revive the economy and rebuild the country.
Discussed were Budget 2018 and 2019; ways to increase government’s revenues, strategies to assist the private sector in the area of policies, soft loans provision, taxes and other means to foster economic growth. Follow-up meetings with each minister will take place to continue discussions on the way forward. The still-draft National Recovery Plan is also for a future discussion between government and SHTA. A copy for SHTA’s 2018 events calendar was presented to ministers at the end of the meeting.
