Tourism Minister visit OBBR

OYSTER BAY--Tourism Minister Stuart Johnson paid a visit to Oyster Bay Beach Resort to learn more about the resort’s progress and challenges post-Hurricane Irma.

Besides construction, Resort Operations/Human Resources Director Mirugia Brown and General Manager Ricardo Perez told of the battle against Sargassum weed on the beach. OBBR is interested in staff attending the Hospitality First Training and Education Programme and hopes to have activities designed to enhance the overall visitor experience.

Johnson shared his vision to improve the tourism sector, which includes reconstruction at Princess Juliana International Airport and revitalising town. Promotional partnerships with stakeholders and the French side “will yield positive results.”

Johnson added, however, that cleaning up the island is paramount.  It is “simply unacceptable” to have wrecked boats still littering the landscape; “urgent measures to correct this” are very needed.

Johnson, who intends to build ties with all hoteliers to understand needs and provide assistance where possible for recovery, made this first resort visit together with his Ministry’s Senior Policy Advisor Regina Labega.
