TelEm will be starting a major underground cable repair and renovation programme in the St. Peters area this month.
- PETERS--TelEm Group’s Outside Plant (OSP) will be starting a major underground cable repair and renovation programme in the St. Peters area this month and ending in December.
The planned works are scheduled to begin today, Monday, and will also include residential and commercial properties in Retreat Estate.
According to TelEm Group Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Eldert Louisa, badly damaged and corroded underground cables serving residents in these areas need to be replaced to give customers a better telecommunication experience.
“Over the years these cables have become affected by the elements and need to be changed and upgraded,” Louisa said.
He said the works will be carried out over a number of days because of the density of customers in the areas where the works will take place. He said there will be interruptions in service, but technicians and engineers will be scheduling their work hours so that there is the least impact possible to customers and persons living in these areas.
“At the end of these works, customers will experience better and more reliable connections all around,” said Louisa.
TelEm Group says the period of work is between November 4 and December 10, and the following areas will be affected at different times: Retreat area: Honeydew Road, Passion Fruit Road, Kiwi Drive, Cantaloupe Road and Blueberry Drive. Affected in the St. Peters area: St. Peters Road, Soursop Road, Genip Road, Tangerine Road, Lemon Road, Strawberry Road, Mango Road, Banana Road, Blackberry Road, Raspberry Road, Grapefruit Road, Apricot Road, Sugar Apple Road, Lime Road, Watermelon Road and a part of Marigot Hill Road.
TelEm Group has apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the company’s planned maintenance works.
