PHILIPSBURG--A delegation from St. Maarten learned about the latest waste treatment technologies at the annual International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress held in Bilbao, Spain recently.

The delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI and the National Recovery Programme Bureau (NRPB).

The congress focused on topics related to sustainable waste management strategies, the circular economy and resource efficiency, NRPB said in a press release on Tuesday. It featured presentations and workshops by professionals in the waste industry field from around the world.

The delegation’s experience at the congress was “highly informative,” it was stated in the release. The trip was key in efforts to increase technical, practical and strategic knowledge and experience in relation to waste management. An additional benefit to the team was being familiarized with the latest waste treatment technologies available on the market, the release said.
