SMVTS students take part in  empowerment workshops

PHILIPSBURG--SXM AIDS Foundation recently facilitated its Real Talk and Girl Power workshops for first-form students at St. Maarten Vocational Training School (SMVTS).

  These three-hour-long workshops took place over a course of two days, April 7 – 8, and April 14 - 15. In total, 22 students participated: 13 boys in the Real Talk workshop and nine girls in the Girl Power workshop.

During these workshops, information was presented through the use of various videos, poetry, pictures, demonstrations, and open discussions on numerous topics. Topics included: identifying healthy vs unhealthy relationships, peer pressure, online bullying, life goals and self-values, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) awareness.

  There was eagerness amongst the students and facilitators regarding the different topics covered, said the foundation. Safety measures and social distancing were enforced during all workshops.

  SXM AIDS Foundation expressed continued thanks to its facilitators for their time and dedication.
