Dump Site #1 on Pond Island was on fire Tuesday evening. Residents living in the Philipsburg area and surrounding neighbourhoods downwind from the smoke were advised by the government to close their windows and doors. The Fire Department worked on containing the flames yesterday. The company responsible for the management of the landfill also worked “diligently” to extinguish the blaze.
