PHILIPSBURG--The second phase renovations of the Philipsburg and Simpson Bay police stations are a “go” with the signing of the approximately US $1.1 million works contract between the National Recovery Programme Bureau (NRPB) and contractor Drive Tech NV on June 14. The project should be completed within three months. This new phase comes a few weeks after the conclusion of the first round of repairs.
The roofs and interiors – mainly all ceilings, floors and wall partitions – of both stations, which suffered extensive hurricane damage in 2017, will be renovated as part of the Emergency Repair Projects 1. Simultaneously, works to air conditioning systems and ducts, the IT system and electrical cabling will be completed on behalf of the Infrastructure Ministry VROMI.
Signing the contract on behalf of NRPB was Director Claret Connor. Gaston Fraser signed for Drive Tech NV. Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever, Dutch Representative Chris Johnson, Police Chief Carl John and supervising contractor Ravindra Patandin of ILACO Suriname NV were present for the signing.
All parties at the signing expressed satisfaction at the progress and looked forward to the completion of this phase. The buildings have been redesigned to withstand up to category five hurricanes.
The project is financed via the St. Maarten Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience Trust Fund financed by the Dutch government, managed by the World Bank and implemented by the NRPB on behalf of the Government of St. Maarten.
