PHILIPSBURG--Rotary Club of St. Maarten recently received two containers full of post-Hurricane Irma relief items and distributed them among the three Rotary Clubs on the Dutch side. According to a press release on Tuesday, many Rotarians, Interactors, Rotaractors and volunteers were there to help open and sort the merchandise that was distributed.
One of the containers came from Rotary Club of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, organized by Lezlie Murch. Rotary Club of Saint Martin Sunrise past president Okama Ekpe Brook, who was in Canada at the time, was a big part of putting the relief together to send the goods to the island.
The things in the containers included clothes, toiletries, cleaning supplies, school supplies, canes, crutches, medical supplies, dry food items, sports equipment, wheelchairs, towels, etc. Rotary Club of Saint Martin Sunrise decided to help distribute most of the medical supplies, as its president Damali Bryson and another member Yelena George both have medical backgrounds.
The supplies were distributed between St. Marten Medical Center and White and Yellow Cross Foundation, which included wheelchairs and walkers for its patients. The second container was sent from Rotary District 7020 and was filled with water and sanitary products.
Rotary Club Sunrise meets at Gingerbread Café in Belair on Tuesdays at 7:00am.
