- EUSTATIUS--Rebels Band Hi-Definition (HD) held a reunion concert on Saturday evening in celebration of its 23rd anniversary.
The band started out in 1996 as youths who came together to make great music. In 1999, the band released its first album entitled “We Gone Beyond”. In recognition of this milestone, Saturday’s concert was named after the title of its debut album.
Also, in 1999, the band won the Road March competition with the song “Statia On Fire,” Thereafter, the Rebels started to get exposure around the Caribbean and beyond and travelled throughout the Caribbean, the United States and Europe.
“We also won many Road March titles,” said band manager Wayne Spanner, who added that the band had released its 19th album called “Still Standing”.
“In 2013, we had a reunion tour and now in 2019, we had another one on a bigger level as former bass player Ronle Rouse was here.”
Spanner thanked the band members’ families, friends, fans and supporters, who had been there for them over the past years.
The band has played during a multitude of events throughout the years. This year its members performed at the Glory Experience pre-Carnival event and during the Grand Carnival Parade. The band is also known for its Easter Monday J’Ouvert Morning Wet-Down.
Last month, Rebels Band HD’s vocalist Genilio “ShowTime” Hassell took part in Rotterdam’s Unlimited Summer Carnival. The band also is a regular at the Antilliaanse Feesten festival in Hoogstraten, Belgium.
