SYNOPSIS:

The Atlantic high pressure system will continue to generate mostly gentle winds across the region during this forecast period. Drifting pockets of moisture in the wind flow may cause some cloudy periods and isolated showers.

Seas are expected to remain slight to moderate through the next few days.

STATE OF THE SEA:  Slight to Moderate         WAVES/SWELLS: 3 to 5 feet

SPECIAL FEATURE: At 11:00 am today, Tropical Storm Gabrielle remains over the eastern Atlantic, located about 1818 miles northeast of St. Maarten. On the forecast track, Gabrielle will make its closest approach to St Maarten on Sunday, passing about 1435 miles away.

This system currently poses no threat to St Maarten.

A trough of low pressure located about 500 miles east of the Leeward Islands is producing a large but disorganized area of showers and thunderstorms. Only slow development of this disturbance, if any, is expected during the next couple of days while it moves slowly northwestward.

A broad area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave located about halfway between the coast of Africa and the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Gradual development of this system is possible and a tropical depression could form while it moves westward across the tropical Atlantic Ocean through early next week. Formation chance through the next two to five days is 10 to 50 percent.

The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of these systems and update the public accordingly.

OUTLOOK through Saturday midday: Partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated showers possible.
